Atrani, situated in a gorge between two mountains,
about 200 metres from Amalfi, was home of aristocratic and incoronation
and burial place of the dukes.
Today Atrani is a quiet, picturesque village where the winding streets remain true to character and largely unchanged. Worth a visit are the marvellous churches of S.Salvatore de Birecto, S.Michele Arcangelo, S.Maria Maddalena and its towering dark tufa bell tower, the typical cakes, the market square where people go to relax for a coffee or meet-up with others. Less famous than Capri, it has often been used for the making of
films. |
